Weddings ~ Old and New

The Loughborough Echo article

Over the last few months my Mum has been sorting through her many photos and she has given me many of myself as a baby and a young child. The other week she sent me a clipping that she had kept of an article about me getting married, it was on the front page of the Loughborough Echo, our town’s weekly newspaper. I’m not sure of the date but it was sometime before our wedding on 7th February 1981.

My Dad and me just before walking in the chapel.

Well the article mentions that as the newly appointed Bishop of the Loughborough Mormons my Dad had an unusual dilemma with my forth coming wedding. It went onto say that the question he was asking himself was ‘Should he conduct the wedding ceremony or should he, in his role of father, lead me up the aisle?’ Further into the article it mentions that we are both considering the problem of church responsibility versus family tradition and if I had my way my Dad would lay aside his church duties and play the part of Dad for the special day (quoting from the article, you can clip on the image to see it in a larger format and read the article).

Steve and me walking out of the chapel after the service

Well it was NEVER in question for either my Dad or me as to what he would do that day and that was him being my Dad in every sense of the word. My Dad felt that it was in responsibility on that occasion to walk me down the aisle and be at my side through the service and so to my joy he did.

Me and my bridesmaids
(Left to Right ~ Claire my cousin, Katie my sister, Alison Steve's sister, me,
Julie my sister, Carol Steve's sister and Sarah my sister.

Obviously this was the reporter’s interpretation of our interview, but it was never question of my Dad laying his responsibilities aside as the Bishop, as it was not necessary for him to marry me and so our then stake president and dear friend George Jones conducted the ceremony. I hope you enjoyed looking at the photos.

2 More family weddings

Marcus and Nichole

On April 19th Steve’s Nephew Marcus (Steve’s sister Carol’s son) married Nichole Bryner from Las Vegas in the Las Vegas Temple. Sadly we were not in attendance, but Aaron, Kimberly and Joshua were there. It was a sunny warm day and Kimberly was their photographer and she did a wonderful job.

Aaron and Fiona

This time the wedding was of Steve's niece his sister Alison's eldest daughter Fiona or Fee as she is known.

It was a lovely sunny day in July Saturday 26th to be precise at the Leicester stake centre. Fiona married Aaron Bayliss and very charming and handsome young man that she has known since she was very little and dated before his mission.

Alison, William, Fiona and Aaron

As you can see from the photos Fee looking stunning and it was a lovely wedding, followed by their being sealed in the London Temple.

I love the pictures- I love seeing other people's wedding pictures! My Dad was Bishop when we got married- only he did both! He walked me down the aisle, and then performed the ceremony! So I got to have it both ways! lol!

I remember that newspaper article... No problems looking for alternatives to sleeveless dresses in those days. Do you think they'll ever come back? I'm sure retailers like being able to charge more money for less fabric! Does the time seem to have passed really quickly? It doesn't seem that long since we were in Loughborough and Marcus was still in YM. Oooh, everybody grows up when your not looking.
